October Edits

And the last great push to edit all the things I've written lately has begun. I have until the end of the month to get them edited and prepared for posting. So Halloween gonna be a busy day for me. What with making sure all the costumes are ready, house is prepped, hubby kept out of the candy, since he has the day off, make sure house is ready for the satellite tv guy coming over, keeping youngest calm before it's time to trick or treat... Lol, yeah, I'll get it done. But if I'm going to get it done, then I guess I had better dive in and start working.

New Laptop

I am so very pleased to say that I received my new laptop. We had some trouble with it since it is a Mac. My kids have Macs through their school program and when my eldest tried to send me a bunch of files, it froze my hard drive. We had to do a total reboot and download of the programming. But it's up and running and I have learned my lesson already. So this morning, well, most of the day, since my hubby is home, typing away on this thing and giving it a test run. It's tiny and I absolutely love it. The screen is smaller than I am used to and the font looks so small. But then I had to remind myself that I blow my screen up to 150% when i am ready and writing things, for ease of noticing mistakes. Doesn't always work, but that's okay. That's why I have the editing system that I do.

The only problem that I have with the Word program that I am using, since I haven't anything else downloaded yet, is that it does not have a word counter on it. That's all right, I can deal with that as well. I already have several flash drives that I can load my current work on to share with this laptop. It also has a better music system and decent speakers. Which my other computer lacks. But most importantly, I can be writing on the computer when my husband is home now and has comandeered the PC. So goal of one million words written this year? I am yet another step closer to you!

New Posts Soon

I have been working and working. Every single day of this month, I have written something. I have an editing list that's quite long. I've been whittling away at that, slowly but surely. Of course, not all of the things that I've been working on are going to appear on other sites. But they will definitely make their appearance here. I am still uncertain about my plans for this November's writing. I suppose I can always do the first half dedicated to what I had planned. And then shake it up the rest of the month. Or work on both at different points of the day. I usually get up early in the morning and work after the kids go to school and before the youngest gets up for the day.

I find the quiet time really great for unadulterated writing time. Just me, coffee and the computer. I can't ever seem to capture what I want when there's too many other people around. But I also have the added bonus this time that I just received a lap top from my father. So I can take that somewhere quiet on the weekends or whatnot and do some writing there too. I had planned to do that today, since hubby has the day off. But he is inclined to just lay on the couch and read his book. So I have the computer all to myself today. The weather has been very blah and windy, which takes a toll on me. My creative juices are simmering, but not overflowing yet. But I think I'll get there. Just see if I don't!

Countdown Begins

So the first few days of October have passed. Which means several things. Canadian Thanksgiving is coming up. I can handle not being there with my family and friends. Got my family down here and plenty new friends to celebrate things with. Not that I've replaced anybody. Not by a long shot. But there's always room for more. Halloween is coming up. That's great. But the day after, whoo! NaNoWriMo is looming already. And I thought I was prepared. I was going through my fiction list and looking at things that I wanted to write immediately. Well, there was one that I had all planned out and I thought, what a perfect fiction for November. With the outline done and my familiarity with every part of it that I want to write, great. The 50k goal was very much attainable this year, barring sickness or disaster. *crosses fingers*

But now I am wondering if I should think about something more challenging. Something that I haven't really done for quite a while. Is it time for me to get back into original fiction. And I don't mean a 50 Shades repeat. I do think that I have some good stories that would translate from fan fiction to straight fiction. But for the most part, the stories that I have, are dependent on the characters and mythos of the settings and worlds they exist in. It seems like too much work to take a story line for ex.- Buffy. Create new lives, missions, jobs and road blocks that have to do with real life to replace the mythology in place on the show.

Why not just do it from scratch, since I've got the entire world to work with already?

I guess that's what this month is going to be about. Finding a story that will hold my attention. One that I feel I need to write. Entertainment purposes or is there a message I want to get out. Dispensing with genre labels so that I can just write what I feel, what I see instead of structuring it to fit preconceived notions. I think it might be a challenge. Hope I'm ready for it.
